Grammar Police.

It was just an eyesore to me when I tried to find a friend's email address and her nickname on msn was "I got a burnt on my arm."

Well, I'm sorry if you read my blog. I just have to correct you, even though my English is not considered the best in my FYP group. I have to state though, it wasn't you. It was the grammar which made me cringe.

1) Did you get a burn, 2) or did you get burnt?

I'm guessing 2) and like all the toughest decisions in the world, you can only choose 1 option. For the rest of us who are clueless (I really, really hope not), the word "burn", although more frequently used as a verb (A matchstick can burn), can also be a noun, which identify a particular type of people, things or places. In this case, you are talking about a burn, like it is a scar or mark on your arm.

Whereas for the word "burnt", it is a past tense of the verb "burn". And thus, while you can say "I got burnt on my arm" or "I burnt my arm", you absolutely cannot say you got a burnt in your arm. Unless someone scrawled the word "Burnt" on your arm.

(I'm sorry for being irritated with this. But having to write an article about the Referee's Dinner as if it went fabulous is a stab in my conscious. Wasn't a deep stab, but I estimate that it is as painful, metaphorically speaking of course, as the burnt in your arm.)

There, I've stated my piece. I feel so much better.

We have a family cook.

Sometime ago, my mum started experimenting with cooking. It is good, especially for a poor girl trying to scrimp and save her way for an impending graduation trip, as I no longer have to pay for takeaway dinners. For the first time, my mum had such a fervour for cooking that she has 3 different types of flour in the cupboard, a small kitchen weighing machine, and today she instructed me to buy a "potato smasher". This is the same woman who would cook the same old dishes in the past on a rotational basis and sprinkle her soup with salt and monosodium glutamate for flavour.

Before this explosion of passion for the wok, I gave my mother a cookbook which I bought in Church for $12. I had no use for it, and even though I had this nagging feeling that it wasn't going to be much use for my mum either, I still presented it to her. Boy oh boy, look at how things change. After enrolling herself in a Community Centre cooking class, my mum have started flipping the pages of the book, and even whipped out a vegetable dish that looks exactly like the picture in the book.

I'm glad.

I'm so glad for the book has brought my mum the joy of cooking. I'm also very glad that when I am tired and weary after a day of refereeing, my empty stomach have something delicious to look forward to. And most of all, I'm glad my mum has found the time to do things she never had the time to do when she had to work in the past.

"To Live"

Gong Li, Ge You and Zhang Yimou. The film was banned in China, naturally.

What Makes a Young Champion

"What better way to find out what makes a young champion than to get the answers from real life champions. Meet Felicia and Shi Hui, two young outstanding basketball players in Singapore and be inspired by their story and take in the fact of the matter. Winning is not an impossible task, but it is not easy either."

Sunday's Matthew Bible Study Was a Thoughtful One.

"Be a blessing to others instead of waiting to be blessed."

"Not my will, but Yours be done."

And...

I felt like a proud parent today, watching Ms Wong Pei Shan (pause) Leanne and Ms Wong Yuen Yan in their very grand graduation gowns, receiving their degree certificates on stage today!

Congratualations on your graduation!

The Hole.

A first-time oversight when trying to maneuver the Rush out of a tight parking lot.

And no one was around to witness anything.

But people, I left a note. And it was a natural thing to do-- right after I cursed secretly under my breath for such an untimely accident.

And it turned out that the above vehicle belonged to the scariest teacher (DON'T TELL HER AH!) in my Uni life ever. But she was very nice about it because I left a note.

Damages will be assessed next week. Let's pray for the best.

Fear Not (Isaiah 43:2)

Sing it, people!

Fear not, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by name and you are mine.
You are mine!

The Documentary

I interviewed the following people for a basketball-inspired short (very very short) documentary.

D: Why do you think you are a champion? (Or a question along that line)

SH: Cos I'm talented...
Felicia: .....

ffffound.com

A Marker.

I need a moment.

Just as I did then,
I could do it again.

I just need to be consistent.

Not dark and twisty.
Not all arrogant and proud.
Not cocky.

I just need to be consistent.

And I need a reminder.
About the weight of the consequences.
I need the scary parts.
Give me the scary parts.

I need to be consistent.
I need to make it happen.

I need the thousand.

The professor said, "You all get straight As. All of you."

No it's not a dream.

It's Asian Cinema and everyone in class were informed of the news.

And so, we're all level again. It's probably the first time getting an A doesn't really mean that much.

Well, at least we're not all getting Bs.

Gradtripfleamarket

People.

In a desperate bid to raise money for the upcoming graduation trip and mission trip, I have decided to sell my worthy possessions. Among the items I am selling are my DVDs (I am surprised at how much DVDs I own!) at really cheap prices and some books, novels and comics here and there. There is also a MagSafe power adapter at a dirt-cheap price for people who might want an emergency power adapter for their MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Just click on the gradtripfleamarket logo on the right hand side of this blog to begin browsing. If you buy a lot I might just throw in a discount or two.

Come, Now is the Time To Worship

Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are to worship
Come, just as you are before your God
Come

(Everybody sing! Ros, hurry and tell God to look at the hearts if the voices zao xia~)

One day every tongue will confess You are God
(Sing faster and louder)
One day every knee will bow
(I know you zao-xia-ing, but continue)
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
(Shout loud loud)
Who gladly choose You now

(Okay, rest a bit)

Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come.

Easter Sunday was a fulfilling day with a good morning service, a thoughtful Matthew Bible Study, a chance to see the baptism ceremony in church (the pool is just behind the stage!), a good workout in the afternoon and a gathering with the old SRJC friends during the referee dinner.

God is good. And I can see the joy in praising Him. And singing P&W even though I tend to go off-key. Oops.

The Lord provides and He provides in abundance.

In abundance.

好想坐火车

That was the train we took to Beijing. That was adventure.
